Inmarsat IsatPhone 2: what differences with IsatPhone Pro?
Hardware
Design and dimensions
IsatPhone 2’s design is very different from IsatPhone Pro’s. Black, with a rugged design while the former phone is blue and grey, it looks comfortable, elegant, modern and resistant. It is also much slimmer with the following dimensions: 169 x 75 x 29mm (antenna stowed) while the Isatphone Pro is build with larger dimensions: 170 x 54 x 39mm (antenna stowed). However, IsatPhone 2 is heavier than IsatPhone Pro with almost 40 grams extra, which makes it one of the heaviest among the latest satellite phones.
IsatPhone 2’s display offers large high-visibility. It is scratch-resistant and transreflective, which makes it easy to read even when the sun shines bright.
Resistance
Like IsatPhone Pro, IsatPhone 2 can be used under extreme conditions: the operating temperature ranges from -20°C to +50°C for both phone and the humidity tolerance goes from 0 to 95%. However, IsatPhone 2 is marked as IP65 while IsatPhone Pro is IP54.
Battery
Battery life for both IsatPhone Pro and IsatPhone 2 in talking mode is 8 hours, while IsatPhone 2 standby mode is improved and reached to 160 hours while IsatPhone Pro can last 100 hours.
It is possible to use IsatPhone Pro charger on an IsatPhone 2 but this should only be used as an emergency measure. It might indeed speed up battery’s ageing.
